Miele CM 5000 Black Countertop Coffee System Review

View Product on Amazon.com

Thousands of people posted online about their great experiences using the Miele CM 5000 Black Countertop Coffee System (View on Amazon.com). We know that different users can have different experiences though, which is why we decided to try this model for ourselves. Its small footprint makes it a great choice for areas where space is at a premium, including a busy break room at work or your own cluttered kitchen. The sleek black finish and chrome accents also work with a wide range of room designs.

As much as you care about the look and design of the coffee machine, you also care about how it tastes. After sampling all the drinks it can make, we had to give this Miele model two thumbs up. It produces the same rich flavors that you expect a professional barista to make in a small shop. With this machine, you may even spend more time drinking your own blends than visiting coffee houses, which will save you some money. Miele claims that regular coffee drinkers can save as much on those drinks as the machine costs in just one year.

Features

Four Portion Sizes

Choose from four portion sizes to get the exact amount of coffee you need every time. It can make a standard size cup of coffee or a smaller and more traditional portion of espresso. You can also program the CM 5000 to produce a double espresso shot or a double portion of coffee.

Automatic Shut Down Timer

Leaving your coffee maker plugged in for a few hours can result in the coffee burning to the bottom of the pot or the machine overheating. This Miele model has an automatic shut down timer that you can set. You decide how long you want the machine to run, and after that period passes with no activity, it will automatically shut down.

Automatic Power On Timer

Make sure that your coffee is ready and waiting for you when you get up in the morning with its automatic power on timer. This lets you tell the machine when to come on. It can turn itself on and even have coffee brewing the next morning.

Compact Shape

Designed for those who want all the benefits of fresh coffee without sacrificing valuable counter space, the CM 5000 has a compact shape to help you save on space. It measures just 15-inches tall by 11-inches wide by 20-inches deep and weighs just 22 pounds.

Select Your Strength

Whether you like your coffee so strong that it practically stands up in the cup, or you prefer something a little less strong, the CM 5000 lets you select your brew strength. It also lets you adjust that strength on a cup by cup basis. Everyone in your home or office can get the flavor they like.

Eco Mode

Use the eco mode to save on energy bills. Some machines will use power as long as you leave the cord plugged into an outlet. The CM 5000 has an eco mode that stops the machine from using any power after it goes inactive, even if you leave it plugged into an outlet.

Long Lasting

Its tests that Miele performed, this model lasted for more than 50,000 cups. You can use it for years in your office or retail space and even longer in your own home.

Insulated Flask

Miele includes an insulated stainless-steel vacuum flask with this model that helps keep milk colder for longer. That flask has a double-wall design that can keep milk cold for up to 12 hours. It also plugs right into the machine of additional convenience.

Bypass Chamber

While it comes with its own grinder, you can also use the CM 5000 with ground coffee that you buy in the store. The bypass chamber has a small door that you can open, which lets you pour ground coffee right into the chamber. This is great for those who drink decaf but share the machine with those who drink caffeinated coffee.

Easy Cleaning

Cleaning the brewing chamber is easy because it actually comes right out of the machine. You can rinse it between uses to keep one type of coffee from flavoring your next batch. Rinsing the chamber can prevent build up too.

Program Options

Even if you fill the 61-ounce water reservoir to the very top, you can still program this machine to use more or less water in each cup. Other program options let you adjust the water temperature from low to medium or high.

Bean and Grinding Chambers

Bean and grinding chambers let you keep coffee beans stored inside the CM 5000 for grinding. It comes with different grinding options for coarser or finer grinding also.

Pros

More Reservoir Space: More reservoir space inside the machine helps you get more coffee and other drinks from your beans and water. Its water reservoir can hold 61 ounces, and its bean container can hold more than nine ounces of ground beans. The CM 5000 also comes with an insulated stainless-steel flask that can hold more than 16 ounces of milk.

Convenient Reminders: Convenient built-in reminders let you know when your supplies run low. The machine will send a reminder to the screen when you need to add more beans or water.

Portion Control: The CM 5000 is one of the only coffee machines we reviewed that actually lets you control the portion of water and coffee you get. You can use four different portion control options when brewing espresso or traditional coffee.

More Program Options: Miele gives you even more options to control how your finished cup looks and tastes. You can select the amount of water, the temperature of the water and the overall strength of the brewed coffee.

Impressive Pump: With a 15-bar pump, this coffee system delivers all the flavor you desire. That pump ensures that the right amount of water mixes with your beans.

Cons

No Cup Warmer: A lot of the machines we review have an integrated cup warmer, but this one used too much space on top for its grinder. You’ll need to warm your cups by hand.

No Hot Water Spout: While this feature may not be a big deal to you, it’s something that many shoppers look for because it lets them make coffee or other hot drinks.

Manual Steam Valve: Using the manual steam valve takes three steps. Some of the newer Miele models come with an electronic steam valve that does all the work for you.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy This Model?

We recommend the Miele CM 5000 for those looking for an introductory model from this brand. Both the 5100 and the 5200 come with some additional features that you might like, including cup lighting,a dedicated hot water spout and an integrated cup warmer.

The 5000 is a great little model that takes up less space and can last for years in any office or home. Its black finish works with any of the decorations or accent pieces in that room too. We also like that it lets you adjust the coffee strength and water temperature. Some of the reasons we think you should buy this model include its insulated stainless-steel milk container, removable brewing chamber and well-lit front display.

Comparable Models to Consider

Miele CM 5100 Black Countertop Coffee System (View on Amazon.com)

As the CM 5000 comes with limited options for steaming milk, you might want to upgrade to the CM 5100 model. It features an electronic steam valve that lets you adjust the amount of steam you want and get that steam in just two steps. Miele also includes an integrated cup warmer on this model. Located on the top of the machine, the warmer helps you keep cups warm, which will keep your coffee warmer too. It comes in both black and white finishes with a stainless-steel trim and accent pieces.

Miele CM 5200 Black Countertop Coffee System (View on Amazon.com)

The CM 5200 from Miele is a complete coffee system that does everything from grind and protect the beans to brew coffee and steam milk. It also comes with some new features not found on the 5100 like a dedicated hot water spout that you can use for mixed drinks or rinsing out your cups. The 5200 also features an integrated cup warmer on top, an automatic cleaning system and a cleaning system for the milk container. Though it only comes in a black finish option, Miele designed that finish to show less dirt and fingerprints.

Miele CM 6310 Coffee System (View on Amazon.com)

Available in a more modern shade of white, the Miele CM 6310 is best for those who like the features of the 5000 but want something more. It has a direct sensor control panel that can display up to four lines of text and an integrated cup warmer. With its OneTouch for two, you can make two cups of coffee with different water temperatures and strengths or two cups of different coffee drinks at the same time. It also comes with a feature that lets you save the profiles of up to four users.
