Jura J95 Carbon One Touch Automatic Coffee Machine Review

After brewing dozens of cups of coffee over the last few weeks and sampling each cup, we finally felt ready to write a review of the Jura J95 Carbon One Touch Automatic Coffee Machine (View on Amazon.com). Automatic machines are best for those who have limited time and less storage space. Instead of finding room for both a grinder and a coffee machine, you can do both jobs with just one machine.

The Jura J95 has a modern design with a carbon exterior and lots of built-in features that help you save time every morning. Not only can it grind your beans, but it can also brew your coffee, add froth to a cappuccino and produce hot or steamed milk. Use the included milk canister to keep up to 20 ounces of milk hot and ready for pouring. There is little that you can’t do with the Jura J95 Carbon One Touch Automatic Coffee Machine.

Features

One-Touch Design

With the one-touch design of the J95, you can do everything you need to do without moving your coffee. It will grind the beans that you added inside, froth your milk, brew coffee from the beans and add milk to the cup you placed in the front.

Colorful TFT Display

Use the colorful TFT display to make coffee and other drinks. The nearby rotary dial lets you cycle between settings and change those settings. This display shows you everything the machine can do in one convenient place.

Drink Settings

Between the TFT display and the push buttons, you can easily select from the available drink settings to choose your brew. It features drinks like coffee, latte, espresso and cappuccino on the front. Click the button right beside that drink to brew your cup.

Hot Water and Milk

Selecting the hot water or milk button will dispense that liquid directly into your cup. Use the liquid for mixing with powdered chocolate to make hot chocolate. You can also use the water to make your own hot tea.

Energy Saver Mode

Unlike other larger machines that need a lot of constant power, the J95 comes with an energy saver mode to help you save big. When you select this mode, the machine goes into automatic shut down and stops drawing from your power supply. As soon as you hit the power button though, it comes back on in seconds.

Grinding Settings

Bean grinding is a personal preference that can vary from person to person. The J95 lets everyone have a say with six different grinding settings. Opt for a coarser grind for a simpler flavor, or choose a finer grind to get more flavor out of those beans.

Bypass Door

If you’re in a hurry and don’t want to wait for the machine to grind your beans, you can use the bypass door. This door lets you add any type of ground coffee, and the machine will use that coffee to make your drink. This is a good feature for homes where some coffee drinkers prefer decaf.

Adjustable Spout Height

With the adjustable spouts on the J95, you can easily use all the cups in your cabinet. It drops down to as little as 2.5 inches and rises to a maximum height of six inches. Using the right height will cut down on accidental spills and stop liquid from splashing over your cups.

Vacuum Container

Take your favorite drink from your home to the office or anywhere else you go with the included vacuum container. That container can hold a little over 20 ounces and lets you enjoy your favorite beans on the go. You can also use the container for keeping milk insulated and warm.

Aroma Plus Grinder

The strength of the aroma that you smell as coffee brews depends on the roasting and grinding process. While other machines take a long time to grind those beans, Jura designed the J95 to get the maximum aroma and flavor from those beans in a fraction of the grinding time.

Froth Attachment

Whether you want a little steamed milk with your coffee or tons of froth for your cappuccino, you can use the froth attachment. Located on the left side on the front of the machine, this attachment can accommodate larger cups and comes with an easy to use dial. Use the images on the dial as you rotate it to the right setting.

Removable Drip Tray

When coffee and hot milk spills over your drink, remove the drip tray for fast cleaning. This tray keeps those liquids from damaging the machine’s insides too.

Pros

Sleek Design: Between accents made from stainless steel and a unique carbon exterior on its surface, the J95 has a sleek look that will fit in any office or home kitchen.

Vacuum Canister: Use the included vacuum canister to keep hot milk on hand for future cups of coffee, or use it to carry hot milk or a coffee drink with you when you leave home. That canister works with the small plastic tube that connects to the milk attachment on the front.

Programmed Settings: With the programmed settings found in this machine, you can make everything from a latte or a cappuccino to an espresso or traditional coffee. You can make your selection with a touch of the button next to each one. The J95 also lets you get hot water or milk.

Burr Grinder: The burr grinder, made from stainless steel, on this machine has a conical design that ensures each bean goes through the grinding process and makes it into the brewing chamber. That grinder also comes with six grinding settings.

Decaf Too: With the bypass door located on this machine, you can make your own decaf coffee from any decaf product.

Cons

High Price: As the J95 comes with such a high price tag, you might prefer a more affordable Jura model. The J95 comes with a lot of features not found on those cheaper models though.

No Rinse Settings: It doesn’t come with any automatic rinse settings or reminders to rinse your tank, which can impact the taste of your coffee.

Lack of Steam Settings: If you prefer steamed milk at a specific temperature like coffee shops offer, you’ll miss that option on this machine. The J95 only produces milk at one temperature.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy This Model?

After drinking multiple cups of coffee from the J95, it gets our seal of approval. While we realize that its high price tag isn’t suitable for everyone, we think it’s a great addition to most homes and offices. You would have a hard time finding a coffee machine that comes with as many features in this price range. Its easy to use design and wealth of program options are just some of the features we liked.

Those programs make it easy for everyone in your home and everyone you work with to share the machine and still get the perfect cup. The Jura J95 also comes with some other impressive features that include a vacuum canister for use on the go, an adjustable cup height that can accommodate cups of up to six inches and a bypass door for using with ground coffee.

Comparable Models to Consider

DeLonghi ESAM3300 Magnifica Super Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine (View on Amazon.com)

DeLonghi made this espresso and coffee machine for those who love cappuccino. It comes with a patented Cappuccino System that lets you brew your coffee to the perfect temperature and then add in milk and steam. We also like its Direct to Brew System, which grinds the beans, sends those beans to the brewing chamber and brews coffee based on the settings you selected. When you use beans that produce less oil like espresso beans, you’ll find that the machine creates a medium roast that provides with the rich and full flavor of those beans.

DeLonghi Dedica Black Stainless Steel Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker (View on Amazon.com)

A filter holder on the top of this machine lets you make a single shot of espresso or a double shot for those long days. While it makes the perfect cup of espresso, it also functions as a cappuccino maker. It automatically blends your coffee and water with the right amount of air and steam to create a drink with just the right amount of foam on top. To make things even easier, DeLonghi includes a separate burr grinder for grinding and storing your beans in between uses.

Gaggia 1003380 Accademia Espresso Machine (View on Amazon.com)

Churn out cups of espresso in the fraction of the time that it would take other home machines with this Accademia machine from Gaggia. Simple buttons the front make it easy for you to select a latte, espresso, cappuccino or a simple cup of coffee. Adjustable spouts let you fill one or two cups and adjusts to a maximum height of over six inches. It also comes with a milk canister that you can fill from the milk spout, which you can also use to add milk to coffee. This Gaggia machine can brew up to 10 cups.
