Jura Impressa F50 Automatic Coffee Center Review

Last updated: March 17, 2019.

Some people can’t fathom the idea of not having a cup of coffee in the morning, and some rely on those caffeinated drinks to get through a long day. We know that many of our readers feel the same way, which is why we spent the last few months looking at some of the top espresso, cappuccino and coffee machines. Through trial, error and lots of samples, we found that some are much better than others. One of the best models that we came across was the Jura IMPRESSA F50 Classic Automatic Coffee Center (View on Amazon.com).

Though far less expensive than some of the commercial products from the same company, it comes with all the features you need for making specialty drinks in your own kitchen. Make a cup of cappuccino with a light dusting of foam on top, or make an espresso that tastes just like those drinks found in Italy. With its unique water filtration system, it lets you enjoy the true flavor of the beans. The F50 even comes with its own built-in burr grinder that will make you feel like a real barista.

Features

Built-In Bean Grinder

The F50 comes with built-in bean grinder on the very top. You can lift the lid, add your beans, change the settings on the display and listen as the machine grinds your beans. It also lets you store those beans inside until you’re ready for your next cup.

Coffee Strength

If you like stronger or slightly weaker coffee than others do, you’ll like having the F50. It comes with three different coffee strength settings that let you adjust that strength to the level that you like. You can use those strengths with two different aroma levels too.

15 Pressure Bars

With 15 impressive bars of pressure, you’ll get your coffee even faster with this machine. Those bars force the water from the reservoir into the brewing chamber and keep the water hot for fast and convenient brewing.

Clearyl Blue Cartridge

Thanks to the Clearyl Blue cartridge, you never need to worry about your water interfering with the taste of your coffee. This specially designed filter cartridge pulls all the impurities from your water before that water touches the ground beans. The cartridge also eliminates need for using descaling products with this machine.

Large Water Reservoir

Home coffee machines often come with a pot that lets you make around six cups of coffee or less. The F50 comes with a 64-ounce water container that helps you get more cups from a single pot. Depending on the size mugs you use, you can get eight cups or more.

Bean Hopper

The bean hopper on the F50 can hold up to eight ounces of beans. You pour those beans into the hopper and decide between grinding now or grinding later. The machine will actually store those beans until you decide to grind them.

Adjustable Spouts

Though it can make and pour into two cups at once, you may want to use larger or taller mugs based on your preferences. While other machines cannot accommodate those unusual cups, this one can. You can use the bar on the front to rise and lower those spouts as needed.

Automatic Power

The IMPRESSA F50 is unique because it comes with an automatic power button. The machine can actually pull in enough power before you turn it off that it will come on automatically and start brewing in seconds. As soon as you hit that power button, it will go to work.

Automatic Shut Down

Save yourself some time in the morning and feel confident when you forget to hit the power button with the automatic shut down available on this machine. This will force the machine to shut down to reduce the risk of overheating and to stop it from draining your energy.

Built-In Coffee Settings

In addition to making standard cups of coffee, the F50 can make specialty drinks too. Make a macchiato, cappuccino, latte or espresso from any of the recipes that you can access from the display.

Easy to Program

The F50 comes with a small button with a “P” on it that sits right next to the power button. Pressing this button lets you quickly program the machine to grind the beans to the consistency you want, change the strength of the brew or the aroma and level and select the drink that you like.

Basic Text Display

The basic text display that the F50 features across its front is also easy to use. This display shows the settings in bright red against a black background. Each time that you press a button, your selection will appear on that screen.

Pros

Make Two Cups: Making two cups is easy because of the adjustable spouts on the front. Those spouts come up and down when you pull the front lever. You can fill two cups all the way to the top with this machine.

Accommodate Unique Cups: With a larger area on the front of the machine, you’ll find that it can easily accommodate even the largest of cups. You can simply push the cup towards the back of the machine and let one or both spouts fill it up.

Get Rid of Impurities: Impurities in your water like calcium can change the way your favorite coffee tastes. The F50 comes with its own built-in filter that removes those impurities before letting you use the water to let you enjoy the natural taste of the beans.

Automatic Settings: Automatic settings like on and off settings help you extend the life of your machine. Those settings will automatically turn the machine on quickly and turn it off later in the day to keep the components from overheating.

Burr Grinder: Using the built-in conical burr grinder helps you quickly grind your beans and brew more coffee. It also lets you store up to eight ounces of beans.

Cons

Super Automatic Design: As this is one of the super automatic coffee machines from Jura, you may find that it’s a little too advanced for your needs.

Aroma Levels: The F50 only comes with two settings for changing the aroma levels. Other Jura machines come with many more options.

Cheaper Parts: Some past shoppers had complaints about the cheaper parts used in its construction. They found that the F50 didn’t last as long as more expensive models did.

Final Verdict: Should You Buy This Model?

We recommend the Jura IMPRESSA F50 because it’s one of the more affordable Jura models. Many shoppers will like that it comes with all the features associated with more expensive models, but some may not like that it tends to break down more frequently than newer models do.

It’s worth pointing out that Jura stopped making this model for a number of years before bringing it back. To access the instructional manual, you’ll need to visit the company’s website. Your coffee center will not come with its own instructional manual. There are also some reports that this machine is harder to find, which might indicate that Jura no longer makes it. If you can find one, but it with confidence.

Comparable Models to Consider

DeLonghi ECAM23210SB Super Automatic Coffee Machine (View on Amazon.com)

Rinsing out your cup before pouring in your coffee helps heat up the mug and keep your coffee hot. As this DeLonghi model comes with a hot water tap on the front, you can easily rinse out your cups before drinking. Use that hot water to quickly whip up drinks made from powdered mixes too. The 60-ounce water reservoir inside pops out easily for cleaning, and it comes with an adjustable spot too. Use the conical burr grinder for grinding your own beans and mixing different bean types to make your own custom blends.

DeLonghi Dedica Black Stainless Steel Pump Espresso and Cappuccino Maker (View on Amazon.com)

Whipping up the perfect cup of energy providing espresso is easy with this DeLonghi model. Unlike the Jura model, which features a lot of bells and whistles designed for making different coffee drinks, this one has a basic design that anyone can use. Once you turn it on, Thermoblock technology lets it cup up to temperature and brew your espresso in just 40 seconds. It can make both single and double shots and come and automatically mixes water with steam and air. Though it does not have a built-in grinder, it does come with a separate grinder.

Krups Falcon Full Automatic Espresso Machine (View on Amazon.com)

With this Krups model, you can stop worrying about the water that comes from your tank. Its filtration system sends that water through a series of filters to remove toxins and impurities that can impact the taste of your coffee. A full-color display on the machine’s front lets you make espresso, coffee and other drinks with the touch of a button. That display also includes settings for producing steam or hot water. There is even a separate wand for producing steamed milk that can also work with an attached hose to fill the included milk canister.
