Coffee. It’s kinda hard to make something perfect any better. Yet somehow, people manage to do just that each and every year. Hey, we’re certainly not complaining! Incredible coffee trends just mean that we have more amazing ways to indulge. Here are 9 incredible coffee trends you’re likely to see during the summer of 2021.
Nitrogen Infused Coffee
No, really. You’re still on the right website about coffee. Nitrogen infused coffee is going to be one of the biggest trends of summer. Granted, you’ll likely see it referred to by its short name of Nitro Coffee or Nitro Brew.
Nitro Coffee is cold brewed. It’s infused with nitrogen which gives it a frothy head without using milk. Since there are no carbs, it’s perfect for pretty much everyone who loves coffee.
Coffee Flour
Yes, you read that right. Coffee is no longer just for drinking. Coffee flour was quickly touted as a superfood. Goodbye coffee cup, hello caffeine-laced lemon bars! Made from green coffee beans, you get more antioxidants from coffee flour than you’d get from drinking a cup of dark roast.
So, does everything made with it taste like a mouthful of, well, wet coffee grounds? Surprisingly, no. It’s much smoother than you’d imagine and doesn’t really even taste like coffee. Oh, and it’s also gluten free. Let the celebration commence.
A Hybrid Cup of Coffee and Tea
We’re not just referring to the time your coworker didn’t rinse their tea leaves out of the Keurig before you made that one infamous cup of coffee. No, people are now enjoying a hybrid blend…on purpose!
Also referred to as yuanyang and CoffTea, this up and coming summer coffee trend is extremely popular in Hong Kong. It’s a mix of a certain amount of coffee and tea together.
Coffee and Butter
Again, you read that right. People have already started putting butter in their coffee, and that trend is going to continue to grow.
Keep in mind, though, we’re not talking about margarine (the bright yellow stuff that is posing as butter). We’re talking about real butter. The kind from cows. If you want to try out this trend, look for butter that is marked as ‘grass fed.’ This means that the cows were raised in a pasture and weren’t feed grain from a bag.
Why grass-fed butter? Well, because it’s full of the good fats that can help you lower your cholesterol. It’s also a great source of vitamin K (which is thought to lower your risk of heart disease).
Don’t worry if you’re looking to lose weight. You can still check out this trend. Grass-fed butter has conjugated linoleic acid (CDA). CDA has been shown to help prime your body to burn more fat during the day. So, you’ll wake up your brain and your metabolism.
More Local Coffee Shops
Move over, Starbucks (no, really – we don’t need one on every corner, do we?). More local coffee shops are popping up. In addition to supporting local business owners, you get more access to personalized and exclusive coffee brews and blends.
Your local coffee shop gets you involved in the community and your local economy. You’ll support a small business that actually needs you (and your money). This can often lead to better service for you and when you ask for less foam or ice, you’re likely to actually get what you ordered.
Gourmet Coffee
Coffee doesn’t just taste like the drink of our parents and grandparents. No. You can get coffee that taste like a candy bar, pumpkin pie, and pretty much anything else under the sun.
This trend will not go away anytime soon. It will actually continue to grow as we find new ways to indulge in coffee. You’ll see more in the way of “specialty coffee” ice creams, iced drinks, espresso, and more.
Fair Trade Coffee
We all like a good deal, amirite? Well, the problem is that the super cheap coffee often isn’t good for everyone involved. Coffee farmers are often not paid what the rest of us would consider a fair wage.
This is why the trend of only purchasing fair trade coffee is going to continue to grow. Although there are people who believe that there are big problems with the fair trade coffee, it’s a start to help farmers out of poverty.
Public Drinking Continues to Rise
No, not that kind of public drinking. We mean coffee. It is expected that our younger generations will continue to engage in PDA with their coffee, unlike older generations.
Since younger generations are also well connected through social media, we forecast an increase in the chance of Instagram, SnapChat, Twitter, and Facebook selfies that include coffee. Coffee establishments and brands thank you for the free advertising!
Sustainably Sourced
Close on the heels of the fair trade coffee trend is the sustainably sourced coffee trend. Much like people want to buy paper products, vegetables, fruits, and other products that are procured in a sustainable fashion, people are now turning to coffee companies that provide sustainably sourced coffee.
Almost half of all coffee drinkers would prefer to buy a coffee product that originated in a way that supports sustainability. All of these good humans make us all warm inside…but then again, that could be the coffee we just finished drinking.
What’s Next for Coffee?
Ultimately, whatever happens next in coffee is up to those of us that drink it. Trends happen because people like you find something they enjoy and they turn others on to it. Trends can also vary from region to region.
